"We got an up close and personal look at the new Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080 UB projector at the 2007 Audioholics State of the CE Union event in Clearwater Beach, Florida. The "UB" stands for Ultra Black and by the looks of what we saw on the screen, the designation is not given lightly. While DLP insists on providing a color wheel and holding out its 3-chip designs for only the most high-end models, Epson and other 3LCD manufacturers are cleaning house in terms of bang for the buck. This under-$5000 projector features a healthy amount of lens shift (almost 100% vertical and 50% horizontal), two HDMI 1.3 inputs, Deep Color (x.v.Color) support, and a 2.1x zoom."
"With a name like PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080 UB, I think Epson needs to drop some of its nomenclature or risk spraining some tongues, but all kidding aside the projector is fantastic. It's stated 50,000:1 contrast ratio may be a bit overstated in terms of real-world numbers, but you can bet that with their new D7 panels with C2Fine (a new inorganic substrate that uses 12-bit video processing and a new polarizing light filter) and 1600 lumens, the 1080 UB is no slouch."
"The new UB model continues to have the same ISF certification of the Pro Cinema 1080 and sports the same low-noise 24dB fan system (in Eco mode) that makes this such a beautiful projector for home theater installations. The retail of the Pro Cinema 1080 UB is going to fall under $5000 and it should release in December. The Pro model also comes with a 3-year limited warranty (as opposed to 2-years) and also includes a ceiling mount and spare lamp."
"In the demo we witnessed at the State of the CE Union event, Epson paired the projector with its optional motorized anamorphic lens system and outboard Silicon Optix HQV video processor. This would, supposedly, make this the "Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080 UB HQV" but my tongue is already numb... With the anamorphic lens and scaler system (roughly an ~$8000 added cost), the picture was absolutely stunning. We saw clips from King Kong and Seabiscuit. Seabiscuit was absolutely stunning in terms of its color. Reds (as in the jockey uniform worn by Toby Maguire) absolutely jumped off the screen while holding on to their definition and detail. Skin tone was realistic and greens were actually green, not green-yellow as is often the case. King Kong demoed the incredible detail and black level reproduction that is possible with this projector (we saw the stampede scene and the rocks and cavern walls made for perfect video demo material). There was absolutely no ambient light in the room, save that reflected by the screen - but it was still apparent that the 1080 UB has massive potential and has overcome some serious hurdles in producing darker blacks."
"The scaler allows the D7 chip to "fill" completely up with an anamorphic image from a 2.35:1 source found on a DVD or HD-DVD. This means that there are no pixels taken up by black bars and "wasted" on the LCD panels. The picture, as a result, is about 30% brighter and the anamorphic lens then expands the output of the lens to the proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio. At the demo we saw the output on a 2.35:1 Carada Criterion screen. There were no black bars and every pixel was being used to its utmost potential. This projection system makes a very nice picture. It was especially nice since Kevin Miller from ISFTV had been on hand earlier to personally calibrate the image to the screen and tweak out the projector to its fullest potential."

Highly recommended!
Visual Apex was absolutely wonderful to deal with, and I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone looking for a projector. Jim at Visual Apex spent a large amount of time with me on the phone and helped me measure the pros and cons of each projector in my price range, as well as helping me get a great screen for a great price (less than what I could have put one together for by buying wood, paint, a frame, velvet covering for the frame, etc.), and a ceiling mount for the projector, which was significantly less than what I was looking at for a ceiling mount elsewhere. This was all a tremendous benefit to me since this is my first projector purchase for home theater use, and I live in a rural area and thus unable to personally screen a wealth of projectors. I am at the mercy of online reviews from professionals and individual users (why I love this site!), as well as the honesty of retailers, and I feel as though Visual Apex is as honest as they come, at least in my experience.
I ordered my equipment on a Thursday, and I received it the following day (I did pay extra for overnight delivery), and everything was received in perfect condition, exactly as it was described to me. Then about two weeks later, I received an e-mail to ensure I was happy with everything, and I replied to it indicating my pleasure in dealing with Visual Apex, then I received a phone call the same day I responded to the e-mail to visit with me about the transaction. Visual Apex seems genuinely concerned that each customer has a great experience with them on each purchase, which is rare these days.
Bottom line, I will absolutely buy from them again the next time I need something they offer--highly recommended seller.

Thanks to VA for their fine service.
Bought the Epson-1080UB from Visual Apex and wanted to let everyone know how great they are to work with. I had some questions about the mount and rebates and was connected to a customer service person right away. He was just super, answered my questions completely and guided me through the ordering process. The products arived when they said and in great shape. The Epson looked great right out of the box and the mount is solid. The manual is adequate although I would like a bit more detail, but I had it running in no time and watching a movie now is just fantastic. I do not have another projector to compare, but the Epson is really great in my dedicated home theater on the 92" screen. Of course the picture is only as good as the source and on a screen this size the differences in the network cameras are much more obvious. Overall, very happy with the Epson and thanks again to Visual Apex for their fine service.

Overall satisfied.
I purchased an Epson Powerlite 1080UB projector and an Elite Fixed 106" Framed Screen along with the universal projector mount from Visual Apex. Overall I was satisfied with my experience and value. I shopped around online for a while and found Visual Apex had very similiar or better prices than other competitors. As far as shipping everything arrived on time except the projector was later than expected but now I have the home theater setup and working Im in heaven.

Good experience.
I ordered an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB from Visual Apex, Inc.
The item was shipped the day following order, arrived in perfect shape, was easy to install and works perfectly.
I did use an adjustable mount rather than the fixed mount, as I have a ceiling Fan in the room.
It has now been operational for more than a month and is great.
If you have not experienced a projector the colors will become sharper after a few minutes of warm up.

The purchase of my Epson 1080UB was rather uneventful, which is good! :-)
I did my research on the projector. I spent some time price/rating shopping on line. I finally settled on Visual Apex, placed the order and the product arrived promptly.

Go with Visual Apex.
I bought Epson Home Cinema 1080 UB. I've always been a little worried about ordering online specially with the lowest price and then charging outrageous shipping cost or fake insurance that can be up to 10%. After reading a lot of merchant review, I decided to go with Visual Apex, They are not the lowest, but if you factor in the free shipping and no other hidden charges they become one of the lower price merchant. I was pleasantly surprised. On the day of my order, the website indicated the projector was on back order with shipping date of the following weeks since I am not in a hurry, I place the order anyway. But the next day I received a tracking number indicating the item has been shipped and arrived on time. This is the opposite from most bait-&-switch online merchant that indicated item was in stock. The only phone call I receive from them was checking if I receive the item and in good condition, not sales person that are trying to sell me some over price accessories. The projector also comes in ¿Double Box¿ so the original Epson box is in a perfect condition. This is the way to all online merchant should be. My advice to buyer is, beware of the "seems to be the lowest" merchant. Go with the reputable company. You got what you pay for. "Grief and headache are priceless".
