Along with the latest D7 chip set, the Epson 8500UB projector adds C2Fine and UltraBlack(TM) technology for superb black levels and vivid images. Further boosting black levels, the Home Cinema 8500 UB includes brightness of 1,600 lumens color and light output and new dual-layered auto iris technology, allowing for an impressive contrast ratio of up to 200,000:1. As a result, the projector controls light intensity more effectively, causing dark images to appear even darker and blacks to appear even richer and deeper.

The Epson 8500UB projector also features Epson's new Super-resolution(TM) technology to create a sharper, more detailed picture resolution ideal for broadcast signal noise reduction or enhancing the quality of poor DVD transfers. Super-resolution technology improves the resolution of a blurred image, allowing consumers to fully enjoy high-definition quality at all times. Epson has also added new real color reproduction capabilities, which delivers more natural and precise colors, allowing viewers to experience the true-to-life colors filmmakers intended.

To ensure sharp, clear images, the projector features Epson's 12-bit 3LCD driver technology and a built-in Silicon Optix HQV Reon-VX scaling and de-interlacing video processor. This processor reduces mosquito and block noise and augments multi-level contrast enhancement to further improve picture quality. Last year's models, the 6500UB and 7500UB were rated at 75,000:1. Next month the Home Cinema 8500UB, rated at 200,000:1, will hit the market. That is a big contrast number, but the 8500 UB is a step ahead of the 6500UB in more ways than just contrast. The frame interpolation system produces much smoother results with fewer artifacts than its predecessor. Super Resolution, an image sharpening option, is a new feature that users will enjoy. Very high brightness modes pump out close to 2000 lumens, with very good color balance that is much better than typical high brightness modes on competing units. Visual Apex: Top-notch internet company. This is a top-notch internet retailer. About 4 years ago, I purchased a Yamaha LPX-510 projector ($4,300), after comparing that model to several more expensive dlp projectors and some less expensive projectors; it worked fine. . .for 2 years; Yamaha finally succumbed to pressure and partially honored the warranty (I had to pay $800 for repairs); the repaired unit lasted another two years, when the previous problem (blue blotches on the screen) re-occurred; this time I couldn't get Yamaha Warranty to respond to my inquiries. I then researched newer moddels and settled on the Epson 8500 UB projector; ready to buy, I researched various internet retailers. After reading customer reviews ad nauseum, I purchased the Epson projector from Visual Apex--mainly because of outstanding customer reviews. Hands down, this is the best internet merchant for electronics I have ever done business with--and--I have made numerous home theatre/stereo/camera/computer/misc. electronics purchases on the 'net over the past several years. This is the first internet merchant who has followed up to make sure my purchase and installation went smoothly. My wife and I had the new projector installed and working in less than five minutes. The Epson has a better picture than the more expensive Yamaha projector. Will definitely purchase from VA again. Purchased Epson HC8500UB from Visual Apex and was thoroughly satisfied with the entire process, which went seamlessly from purchase to installation. Although I waited until the 11th hour to make my final purchase, prior to the superbowl, it still arrived as promised, installed easily and ultimately impressed a big crowd for my Superbowl party. The 8500UB produces an excellent picture. I was a bit worried that it would not compare to my Samsung 55" LCD. To my surprise, the Epson produces a vibrant picture with excellent detail and contrast. Visual Apex rocks! Short: Visual Apex rocks. Period. Long: - Visual Apex is a model for online business. Their home page is touch busy, but the projector I bought is right on the home page, so it was trivial to locate for price comparison, which was the lowest price along with other web vendors. (I didn't use search or any other feature of the site so I can't speak to them) I found Visual Apex while reading projector reviews right here at Projector Central. - I wound up calling to verify the then in effect rebate would be valid based on order date, not ship date, as it was the last day of the promotion. Jennifer took the call and wound up taking my order right then and there instead of letting me go through the web process. (grin) She was a true delight to work with; her smile came through clearly on the phone, she listened and responded accordingly, she was very easy going, and she seemed fairly knowledgeable about projectors. If Jennifer is how all sales people are at Visual Apex one would have a hard time going wrong with them. - In truth I don't recall asking much in the way of technical information about the Epson UB8500, or how to set it up. If Jennifer asked that sort of thing I didn't bother to remember because it wasn't important to me. I'd already gotten that information here, at Projector Central, plus I've owned a projector for 11 years so I'm fairly conversant with installation. I needed Visual Apex to be an informed seller, not a technical resource, and they filled that role with absolute flying colors. - I was also emailed post-sale to verify I had received my projector, and to ask if I had any issues setting it up or operating it, along with a point of contact if I should have any questions in the future. I knew I'd have no problems with it, but Visual Apex didn't, and that's a nice after-the-sale touch that I don't recall ever seeing in a web vendor before. Usually people sell you something, then you fall off their radar completely. Visual Apex goes the extra mile to be make certain you are a satisfied customer, not just a body that happened to make a transaction with them. - The UB8500 arrived a scant five days after ordering it, and the box looked like it had just come from the factory in Japan, without even a scuff mark on it.
